Katie Hall is the reason I now love Cosette as much as I do. She gave Cosette this depth that many other actresses hadn’t. She was more than just the soprano part that did nothing. I honestly can’t explain it. Her Cosette was just so believable and relatable. I imagined what it must’ve been like to grow up away from other children her age; what it must’ve been like not really having friends and then not knowing the reason for it. I understood her slight frustration with Valjean (which other actresses don’t really convey). And then she meets Marius and falls in love for the first time. It’s so sweet. And the fact that he loves her back! Sure, laugh about how cheesy that is, but Katie Hall’s Cosette made me root for Cosette and Marius.
She was my inspiration when I played Cosette and will always be.
